Our son, Jack, is almost 21 months old now, and he can do so much now that sometimes I forget he’s still learning new things every day. I’ve almost come to take for granted the new things he says and does every day. It’s only when I stop to think that this will someday change that I realize what a big deal this is. Every day is a new first.

We were at an Indian restaurant for dinner earlier today, and since most of the food there is too spicy for Jack to have he was eating some beets out of his plate when he saw some okra on my wife’s plate and pointed at it. My wife said, “no, no, Jack, too hot”. And he said, “peez ammma!” (please, mama). That’s the first time he put two words together in a sentence. A major milestone in his development. Just like that. Man, I love being a dad.
